To celebrate the museum's third anniversary, the Reims Museum Collection will be exhibited at the exhibition "From Tsuguharu Foujita to Léonard Foujita: The Path to Prayer" from Saturday, October 4th.
The Karuizawa Ando Museum of Art, which houses only works by Tsuguharu Foujita (1886-1968), will be holding the exhibition "Reims Museum Collection: From Tsuguharu Foujita to Léonard Foujita: The Path to Prayer" from Saturday, October 4, 2025 to Sunday, January 4, 2026 to commemorate its third anniversary.
This exhibition is a collaborative project with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims (Museum of Fine Arts, Reims), which has donated over 2,300 artworks and documents from Foujita's wife, Kimiyo, and her family, as well as drawings and documents from the collection of Maurice Crozier, the architect of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace in Reims (commonly known as the Chapelle Foujita). Beginning with Foujita's baptism, this exhibition features 46 artworks from the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims, including 44 works being shown in Japan for the first time, and, together with works from the museum's collection, explores the artist's final years and life. Returning to Paris in 1950, in his mid-60s, Foujita was baptized Catholic in 1959. Thereafter, he devoted himself entirely to the creation of religious paintings and the construction of the Chapelle. As you trace the footsteps of Foujita in his final years, you will experience the world of religious painting that he sought.
At the same time, the exhibition "Traveling the Path of Tsuguharu Foujita Through His Works" will be held in Exhibition Room 5, and "Wine, Flowers, Flames - French Landscapes Colored by Wine" will be held in the Special Exhibition Room.
